The Social Issues surrounding severe pest infestations

March 18, 2022

Mice, rats, bedbugs etc are quite often a symptom of the way in which we live. Waste, drainage, travel etc. And in most cases that 'issues' are simple to deal with (remove waste, seal entry points thorough treatment etc).

However, in a small but growing demographic pest problem are often severe and almost always a sign of an underlining social/psychological/financial/emotional/physical condition or disorder.

Example: Traumatic childhood, addiction, rough sleeping, hostel, hoarding disorder (one of several disorders), mice and rats infest the room. Is this a pest control problem?

No it isn't, it is much deeper than this but sadly a scenario we deal with on a regular basis.

All we as a small company can do is remain understanding, empathetic, educated and professional.

Hoarding is a mental health disorder and needs therapy, compassion, empathy and professionalism. Mice and other pests can be a symptom but it does not mean you are a dirty person.
